Our specialty is reactive dogs - or more to the point seemingly "over-reactive" dogs - those who bark/lunge or otherwise present aggressive behaviour presentations at the sight of other dogs, people or other triggers. Or those who react by running away from their fears.
We abide by the philosophy of relationship based training. This isn't just a training method, or even a behaviour modification technique, it's a whole lifestyle. Our bond with our dog is sometimes the only thing we have that keeps us going. They are constantly offering us unconditional love and warmth, it's really only fair we offer the same in return. The best way we can show unconditional love to our dogs is by understanding their emotional worlds, really starting to put ourselves in their paws and acknowledge how their life experiences differ from our own.
Are our sessions one and done? Absolutely not. You can't mend or improve a relationship overnight. You can't adapt your whole lifestyle with the flick of a switch. We are changing the emotional world of your dog, one day at a time. That's why our support outside of sessions plays such a huge role in the work that we do. Our WhatsApp groups guide you through each day with as much help as you need. With both Laura and I on hand to reply to messages our support is unique. It's daily, including weekends!
Are our prices the cheapest around? For what you get, yes! With two peoples salaries to support, out of respect that we both bring very different skill sets to the table, we do offer a more holistic and unique service but at an affordable price. We don't want to be unaffordable for all the dogs in a desperate need for help.
What else makes us unique? Our secure field is a huge part of our work. It's invaluable for our particular speciality, reactivity work. Our varied buddy dogs as well who are known by us inside out and assessed on a deep level, we couldn't do it without them. One buddy dog isn't enough. They would get too "worked", too tired, which could affect their behaviour outside of their role. We have a handful and the fantastic thing is sometimes our doggy students become a buddy dog themselves!
Do we employ quick fixes? No such thing, without harming your relationship with your dog. If you work with us we ask for a committed mindset with the full knowledge that the dog dictates the speed. And your ability to implement practice outside of session too. We don't crack the whip on your progress so why would we crack the whip on your dogs'? A beautiful working partnership is the journey to treasure, not just the end result.
Are we qualified for this particular specialty? My level 6 advanced diploma covered everything but my particular interest has always been in these strong emotional demonstrations that we call "reactivity" or "aggression". So much so I'm currently studying a separate level 5 dog aggression diploma to ensure my knowledge is entirely up to scratch with this role. Dealing with dog reactivity is not without risk. It's serious business. Dogs quickly labelled as "dangerous dogs" are at risk of being misunderstood by society with harsh repercussions. Especially when the aggression is human directed. Out of respect to the welfare of Laura and myself I only put us in situations that I am qualified and experienced to deal with. That does include aggression but even then it will have its limits, usually based around the mentality of the other end of the lead. If our way of working doesn't fit the humans tolerances we will refer on.
We are both so passionate about what we do. It's tough to pull in a professional and ask for help. Whether we come to your home or you come to our field we do understand the hesitancy, the apprehension, the concern about what we will ask of you. My background in support work for adults gives me the skill set to be able to have some very deep, honest and valuable conversations. But only when you are ready to. IF you are ready to! We can deal with some very life restricting difficulties in session. There's often a lot of emotion behind that and that emotion is welcome, in fact, it will help our progress a lot.
If you'd like a chat about how we could help you to get a feel for us before signing up to meet us, please drop me an email and we can arrange a time to talk. It's so important you are comfortable with the process, as well as your dog. We are approachable, friendly and empathetic people. We are here.
