Jen Leslie
I am the founder of Calvert Canines and a qualified and accredited Canine Behaviourist and Trainer.
After graduating with a Psychology BSc degree at university and starting a career in support work, I thoroughly enjoyed a long stint volunteering at a dog rescue centre with the long-term residents, improving their chances of finding forever homes. This led me to switch over to a career with dogs and their owners.
My Psychology BSc degree has informed my studies significantly and since then I have completed an Advanced Diploma in Canine Behaviour Management (Level 6) with Distinction, as well as a Diploma in Dog Care, Behaviour and Welfare, also with Distinction. I have also completed a Diploma in Canine Nutrition (Level 5) and am currently studying a Diploma specifically in Canine Aggressive Responses (Level 5). I keep my knowledge up to date through courses and webinars to ensure I can provide you with the latest techniques and understanding of your dog.
I have a particular interest in canine compulsive behaviours (such as wall licking, excessive grooming, shadow chasing, spinning) having supported my own rescue dogs through such issues, as well as many client dogs. I also thoroughly enjoy helping dogs who are exhibiting reactive behaviours - whether that be towards other people, dogs or cars etc. We have a small team of wonderful stooge dogs who help me in this work - you can read about them further down this page!
In 2021 I was delighted to invite Laura in to the Calvert Canines team. A talented dog trainer with a superb understanding of dog body language and needs she brings a lot to every session she joins in on. Read more about Laura below.

Laura Holloway
I have a long history of professional dog walking, most recently under Calvert Canines. Whilst I still undertake some dog walking I was also excited to take on the role as a dog trainer, working alongside Jen in her behaviour and training sessions. You will quickly recognise my love and compassion for all canines - with knowledge and experience from small to large breeds. I am passionate about training with kindness, using rewards such as praise, treats or toys to reinforce the behaviours we'd like to see. I am also devoted to teaching children and canines to have mutual respect of each other. The majority of dog bites happen to children by a family pet - this needn't be the case. Our children are our future dog owners so lets teach them correctly. Having had my own dogs with tricky training issues I have seen first hand the fall out of aversive based training. My dogs are now trained through positive reinforcement methods only and the difference in the outcome for the dog and my human family too are outstanding. My male German Shepherd has only ever experienced force free and pain free learning and as a result is a proud stooge dog for Calvert Canines helping other dogs with anxieties. You can read more about him below! |
Our Buddy Dogs!
Buddy dogs (aka stooge dogs) are an integral part of helping a dog overcome anxieties/fears of other dogs, as well as helping young dogs or rescue dogs develop some all important social skills. We are so lucky to have a wonderful mix of buddy dogs that we can work with to help us help your dogs!

“Most mornings and evenings we are out across the fields now. After over two years of being petrified to even walk down the road not even an hour with Jen and my confidence was lifted. Thank you so much for your time you have made me and Pickle and Branston very happy and enjoying walks again.”
