After graduating with a Psychology BSc degree at university and starting a career in support work, I thoroughly enjoyed a long stint volunteering at a dog rescue centre with the long-term residents, improving their chances of finding forever homes. This led me to switch over to a career with dogs and their owners.

My Psychology BSc degree has informed my studies significantly and since then I have completed an Advanced Diploma in Canine Behaviour Management with Distinction, as well as a Diploma in Dog Care, Behaviour and Welfare, also with Distinction.  To compliment my studies further I am committed to ‘Continued Professional Development’ seminars and workshops to ensure my knowledge is refreshed periodically. I am also a practical tutor for a well known canine behaviour course provider.

I have worked with an eclectic mix of breeds, personalities and ages, as well as dogs with special needs such as being blind and/or deaf.  The face of my logo is created around a very special collie who I worked with in rescue who had significant physical and behavioural issues and taught me so much in those early days about what it means to truly see our dogs for who they are, and listen to what they are telling us.

Personally, I share my life with three rescue dogs (one of which came home with me the morning she came in!) who have all been working through their own difficulties so they can make the most out of their lives.  I am very pleased to say that now the majority of the issues have been helped, they tend to just spend life now “being a dog”.  What more can be asked of them?
“Most mornings and evenings we are out across the fields now. After over two years of being petrified to even walk down the road not even an hour with Jen and my confidence was lifted. Thank you so much for your time you have made me and Pickle and Branston very happy and enjoying walks again.”
What I will not do:
  • I will not advocate methods born from outdated theories such as dominance techniques that have been scientifically debunked (please ask for relevant reading material if you’re interested!)
  • I will not advocate aversives such as shock collars, water sprays, pennies in a can, as these will create issues, not fix them.
  • I will not advocate punishment techniques such as shouting, slapping, leash jerks and so on.  Connection is not built on these unnecessary ills.  There is a kinder way, trust me!
What I WILL do:
  • Help you to read your dogs own body language as this is their sole way of communicating with us and communication in an attachment works both ways.
  • Use and pass on to you positive reinforcement methods to show the dog how we would like them to behave and help them feel better about themselves/the world around them.
  • Take time to assess your dog as an individual, not just a member of one species, or a particular breed.
